Outdoor Holiday Decorations for a Festive Yard

We’re entering some of the coldest months of the year, but that doesn’t mean your yard has to suffer. Holiday decorations are a great way to liven up your space and get into the spirit of the season.

Here are our favorite festive yard decorations that will bring joy to your family and neighbors all season long.

Go For Oversized Ornaments

Big, bright ornaments bring out the kid in all of us. Look for giant ornament displays at your local home improvement store to place in your yard and on trees and bushes. These displays are made with weather-resistant materials, so you don’t have to worry about them getting damaged in a Minnesota blizzard. Plus they’re big enough for Santa to see when he’s flying overhead.

Put Up Holiday Planters

Flowers like poinsettias and pine branches immediately make a space feel more festive. Add the finishing touches with bows, ornaments, pinecones and holiday lights. Your local greenhouse or flower shop should have plenty of holiday-themed arrangements in stock.

Bring Magic to Life with Yard Inflatables

Inflatable Santas, reindeer, candy canes and snowmen are one of our favorite additions to the array of holiday decor. Putting out inflatables that don’t completely match the season, such as dinosaurs and popular cartoon characters, can also give your neighbors a reason to smile as they pass by.

Don’t Scimp on Holiday Lights

Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah or something else, odds are “light” is a theme in your holiday festivities. String lights on trees and bushes, light-up reindeer and solar-powered pathway markers create a warm, inviting glow as guests approach your home. Choose lights in colors that pair well with your home design: white lights are classic, yellow are cozy and multicolored are jolly.

If you are hanging lights up high, just make sure you have the right gear and that you are following proper winter safety tips.

Set Up a Tree Garden

You don’t need a big yard to plant a tree garden. First, decide if you want real trees or artificial ones, and purchase them in sizes that won’t make your property feel cluttered. Once you have set them up, decorate them with holiday lights, bows and ornaments. This is an awesome family activity that gets everyone excited for the season.
